Siliguri, 10th February: GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa met CM Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata and discussed several issues regarding the hills and GTA region. During this, they also discussed land leases after which the state government agreed on providing leases.
After arriving at NJP station from his meeting in Kolkata, today, the GTA Chief addressed the media and said that there had been a problem with land lease in the hills for many years. As 80 percent of the people do not have land papers, he assured that the issue will finally be resolved. Survey work will commence in tea gardens from today, and the people will be provided with land leases in a few days.
At the same time, when Anit Thapa was asked about the permanent political solution to the hills, he said that people have no or very little idea about the permanent solution they talk about. Thapa further added that according to him, the only solution for the hills is proper education, drinking water, health, and roads.
