Patient arrested for theft at a nursing home in Siliguri, stolen items recovered

Siliguri, 14th November: A patient was arrested for allegedly stealing a laptop and two tablets from a doctor at a nursing home in Siliguri. The accused, identified as Deepak Garg from Haryana, had reportedly fled after committing the theft on 7th November.

According to police, the laptop contained software worth nearly ₹6 lakh. After the complaint was filed, Matigara police examined CCTV footage, where Deepak Garg was seen committing the theft. However, he had gone missing immediately after the incident.

During the investigation, police found an online bill of ₹78 paid by the accused for medicines at the same nursing home. Using this crucial clue, the Matigara plain-clothes team tracked him down and arrested him from Mahakal Pally. On interrogation, the stolen laptop and both tablets were recovered.

Police said the accused had come to Siliguri with the intention of committing thefts and had already targeted three nursing homes. Officers added that the ₹78 online payment became a key piece of evidence in identifying him.

After arrest, Deepak Garg’s health deteriorated. He has a pacemaker implanted and is currently admitted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). Police will present him before the Siliguri court once he recovers. Investigation into the case is underway.
