Siliguri, 21st December: On Thursday, the Paschim Banga Basti Unnayan Samiti took to the streets under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Abhiyan in support of various demands, with the residents of several localities. During the rally, the left leaders were also present.
According to reports, the protesters arrived at the SMC premises through a rally from the area adjacent to Anil Biswas Bhawan in Siliguri. However, the rally was halted by the police. Subsequently, the protestors sat on the road. During the abhiyan, several CPI(M) leaders including Ashok Bhattacharya questioned the role of the Municipal Corporation.
In this regard, former Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya stated receiving only assurances, upon raising questions. He added that the assurances are yet to be a reality.
