Siliguri, 15th December: The Paschim Banga Basti Unnayan Samiti launched ‘Siliguri Puranigam’ Abhiyan, on Wednesday, in support of multiple demands.
The residents of the city’s slum areas initiated the campaign with various demands related to municipal services. A rally was taken out in the presence of multiple leaders including Left leaders Ashok Bhattacharya, Dilip Singh, Nurul Islam, and Sharadindu Chakraborty.
The rally commenced from Anil Biswas Bhawan on Hillcart Road and reached SMC. As soon as the police interrupted the rally, Left leader Ashok Bhattacharya and others started protesting in the streets. Later, a team of 10 representatives handed over the memorandum to the SMC commissioner.
