Parents protest hike in school admission fees at Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 05th January: Parents staged a protest against the increase in admission fees at Santoshini Vidya Chakra High School in Phansidewa, Bidhannagar. According to the parents, the school authorities are charging Rs 1,000 per student as admission fees, while the government-prescribed fee is only Rs 240, causing financial strain for families in the rural area.

The parents questioned the reason behind the extra charges, citing their inability to pay the increased amount for enrolling their children. Following the protest, the school authorities temporarily halted the admission process.

The school’s acting headmaster stated that on 19th November, a meeting was held with parents, during which the proposal to collect additional fees for school development was discussed, and parents had reportedly agreed. Currently, the admission process remains suspended due to the ongoing concerns raised by the parents.
