Siliguri, 08th February: A paramedical and nursing institute operating in the Salbari area under the Pradhan Nagar police station in Siliguri has come under serious allegations of cheating hundreds of students.
The institute is accused of collecting hefty fees in the name of paramedical courses and later abruptly declaring itself a vocational training centre.
According to sources, around 300 students had enrolled in the institute, each paying approximately ₹1.30 lakh as course fees. After the sudden change in the institute’s status, students realised they had been cheated and began protesting outside the premises.
Following complaints lodged by the students, Pradhan Nagar police took action and arrested three people, including two women. The arrested accused have been identified as Karina Rai, Khewal Khawas and Srijana Khatri. All three were produced before the Siliguri court.
Police officials stated that the main operator of the institute is currently absconding, and a search operation is underway to trace him. Authorities are also verifying whether the institute possessed valid documents to run paramedical and nursing courses.
DCP Rakesh Singh said that a thorough investigation into the entire matter is in progress.
