Siliguri, 14th March: Acting on intelligence inputs, authorities conducted an operation in Samar Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar police station, and seized 3 kg 700 grams of Pangolin scales and a deer antler weighing 400 grams from the residence of an individual, identified as Sajon Sarkar, alias Babu.
The wildlife articles were confiscated, and the accused was arrested under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act. The operation was led by Deepak Rasaily, Range Officer, Sukna Range.
According to sources, the seized items were destined for Nepal. The seized Pangolin scales hold an estimated international market value of Rs 6 lakh. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the items.
It has been noted that the accused has a prior record of drug peddling under Pradhan Nagar police station. He will be produced before the Siliguri Court on Saturday.
