Panchayat Elections 2023: Darjeeling’s Saran Subba runs 21 km to submit nomination papers

Darjeeling, 14th June: In an extraordinary display of determination and commitment, Sharan Subba, a 36-year-old resident of Sonada’s D. B. Road, chose a unique approach to file his nomination papers for the upcoming West Bengal Panchayat elections. Sharan embarked on a remarkable journey, running a distance of approximately 21 kilometres from Sonada to the Sukhia Pokhri Block Development Office, where he submitted his nomination as an independent candidate.

The decision to undertake this physically demanding endeavour was driven by Sharan’s desire to draw attention to the pressing issues of traffic congestion and pollution in the hilly region. By running the distance instead of relying on traditional means of transportation, he aimed to highlight the health benefits of walking and running, promoting a greener and healthier lifestyle for the local community.

Sharan’s determination and dedication to his cause have garnered attention and admiration from both residents and fellow candidates participating in the Panchayat polls. His unique nomination filing method serves as a symbolic reminder of the importance of sustainable transportation and the need for a cleaner environment in the hills.
