Siliguri, 14th November: World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on November 14 to mark the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who discovered the insulin hormone along with Charles Herbert Best in 1922.
The day was observed on Sunday morning in Siliguri under the initiative of a voluntary organization. Awareness was raised among the people through a ‘Padayatra’, which commenced from Siliguri Kanchenjunga stadium and toured various parts of the city.
SMC administrator Goutam Deb, MLA Shankar Ghosh, former MLA Shankar Malakar, SDO of Siliguri Sub-Divisional Council and others were present at the programme.
