Online IPL betting racket busted in Siliguri, two arrested

Siliguri, 17th May: In a significant crackdown, the Special Operation Group (SOG) under Siliguri Metropolitan Police, along with the undercover cops of Pradhan Nagar police station, successfully apprehended two individuals involved in an online betting operation centred around the IPL matches. The accused have been identified as Rohit Singha (21) and Nabankur Sarkar (34), both residents of the Pradhan Nagar police station area.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint operation took place late last night, leading to the arrest of the accused who were operating the illegal IPL betting market from a rented house in Gurung Basti area. Utilizing a mobile app, Singha and Sarkar engaged in daily gambling activities, placing bets on IPL matches. During the operation, the law enforcement authorities seized two mobile phones and a significant amount of cash from the accused. Today, both individuals were presented before the Siliguri court, where the police requested their remand for further investigation.
