Kharibari, 04th April: Sensation ensued after a tragic accident claimed the life of one while injuring three others on the Asian Highway 2 adjacent to Quarter More of Kharibari. All the injured are said to be residents of Siliguri’s NJP.
Reportedly, a four-wheeler was heading toward Siliguri which collided head-on with a truck carrying bamboo. After the incident, a woman and two other people were rescued from the four-wheeler and after first aid at Naxalbari Rural Hospital were referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. At the same time, the driver got trapped in the vehicle. Kharibari and Naxalbari police and fire brigade rescued the driver from the vehicle and brought him to Naxalbari Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
However, the locals alleged that despite the presence of light posts on the national highway, accidents are occurring frequently as the lights are not lit during the night. On the other hand, the driver of the truck is absconding since the incident. The police are probing the entire incident.
