One dead in Sevoke More’s Hotel fire, Mayor directs Commissioner to conduct forensic investigation

Siliguri, 17th February: Sensation prevailed in a hotel situated on Sevoke Road after a massive fire gripped the hotel into its flames. The tragic incident claimed the life of a  worker at the hotel on the fateful Thursday night. After shutting the hotel for the night, a worker identified as Parimal Das (35) used to sleep inside the hotel and tragically passed away in the fire incident. 


 

The body was recovered from the hotel in the early hours of Friday. Reportedly, the deceased was a resident of Mekhliganj and was working in the said hotel since last August. The hotel is said to be about 60 years old and has a tire shop nearby. Hotel owner Vijay Ghosh alleged that the fire started from the shop. Siliguri Police recovered the body in the early hours today. Police have sent the dead body to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. 


 

On the other hand, Mayor Goutam Deb, Member of Mayor in council Manik Dey reached the spot as soon as the news of the incident was received on Friday morning. The mayor interacted with the hotel owner and local businesspeople. The Mayor directed the Police Commissioner and the IC of Siliguri police station to conduct a forensic investigation of the incident.
