Rajganj, 04th July: The Rajganj police have successfully intercepted a four-wheeler involved in trafficking liquor during a routine inspection at Hati More area on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH) 31D. The police have arrested an individual identified as Kamlesh Bhandari (38) in connection with the incident. Bhandari, a resident of the Sursand area in Sitamarhi district of Bihar, was taken into custody.
According to police sources, the interception took place on Tuesday evening as part of a checkpoint set up in preparation for the upcoming panchayat election. The four-wheeler, traveling from Jalpaiguri, was stopped by the police. Upon conducting a thorough search, the officers discovered 102 bottles of foreign liquor concealed within the vehicle. Consequently, the vehicle was impounded. Initial investigations indicate that the confiscated liquor was intended for smuggling into Bihar.
The accused will be presented before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Wednesday to face charges related to the incident.
