Siliguri, 12th November: DRI recovered gold biscuits worth crores after raiding a train at NJP station. One person identified as Sheikh Saiful of Howrah was arrested in the incident.
The DRI received a tip-off regarding the gold and smuggler who had boarded the Guwahati-Howrah Special train. Upon receiving this information, DRI reached NJP station and raided the said train, and searched Sheikh Saiful in Coach No. 10. Roughly 13 pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody when he failed to present any valid documents of the gold.
According to DRI sources, Sheikh Saiful got hold of 2.156 kg of gold worth 1 crore 8 lakh 1 thousand rupees in Assam through the Indo-Myanmar border. He was produced at the Siliguri court today.
