Kharibari, 01st March: A drug peddler was arrested with 203 grams of brown sugar in the area adjacent to the Bengal-Bihar border in Kharibari. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Afan (22), a resident of Kishanganj, Bihar.
According to police sources, jawans of the 41st Battalion of SSB conducted a raid in the Banchavita area along National Highway No. 327 in Kharibari, leading to the arrest. The accused had reportedly arrived from Bihar to sell drugs when he was apprehended and searched, resulting in the recovery of 203 grams of brown sugar.
Following the arrest, the SSB handed over the accused to Kharibari police. Officials stated that the market value of the seized brown sugar is in lakhs. The arrested individual was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday.
