Siliguri, 03rd July: In an incident that raised questions on the serenity of Siliguri’s regulated market, a person was arrested with banned cough syrups by the police. Following the arrest, questions arose if the darkness of the night is providing a safe passage for drug trafficking in the market. Notably, even a few months ago, Pradhan Nagar Police Station seized drugs estimated to be in crores of rupees from the regulated market.
According to reports, on Sunday night, an individual arrived at the regulated market, with a bag carrying banned cough syrups, from Falakata in Alipurduar with the intention of selling. Acting promptly, the cops of Pradhan Nagar Police Station arrested the said individual, identified as Rafikul Islam.
According to police sources, following inputs of the illegal activity, last night, the accused was caught red-handed by initiating an operation in the regulated market. Police after registering a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act produced the accused before the Siliguri Court today. At present, police are investigating the entire matter.
