Siliguri, 23rd November: In a joint operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Bhakti Nagar police arrested a man with 1.5 kilograms of brown sugar, estimated to be worth ₹15 lakh in the market. The arrested man has been identified as Dinbandhu Barman (27), a resident of Kharibari. The police also seized the bike used by the accused.
According to police, based on a tip-off, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police conducted a raid near Indira Gandhi Maidan on NH-10 on Saturday night
During the operation, a suspicious biker was stopped and searched in the presence of the Bhakti Nagar police IC. Two packets containing 1.5 kg of brown sugar were recovered from a bag carried on the accused’s back.
Dinbandhu Barman was arrested, and the bike used in the smuggling attempt was seized.
A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act, and he has been presented before the Jalpaiguri court. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
