Siliguri, 14th September: In an operation against illegal mining, the Matigara police have arrested an individual for unlawfully extracting sand and stones from a river, in violation of National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives. The truck driver, identified as Mohammad Hakim, was arrested in the case.
According to reports, the authorities were alerted of the illegal extraction activities in the Balson River of Matigara. On Friday afternoon, a police team conducted a raid at the site, resulting in the arrest of the truck driver. The operation led to the seizure of a truck involved in the illicit activity. On Saturday, Hakim was presented in the Siliguri court, where legal proceedings are underway.
