One arrested in connection with mobile shop theft in Siliguri

Siliguri, 10th January: Police arrested one person in connection with a theft at a mobile phone shop in the Thakur Nagar area along Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass. The arrested accused has been identified as Biswajit Sen, a resident of the Dakshin Shanti Nagar’s Durga Mandir area.


According to police, the theft took place on Wednesday night, during which several expensive mobile phones were stolen from the shop. The accused also took away the hard disk of the shop’s CCTV camera, a router, and cash amounting to around Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000.

Following the incident, the shop owner lodged a complaint at the police station. Based on the complaint, plainclothes personnel from NJP police station launched an investigation. The accused was identified after examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding areas.


Police arrested the accused on Friday. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the theft. However, the stolen items have not yet been recovered.

On Saturday, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
