Siliguri, 07th September: A significant development has emerged in the case of the physical assault on four members of a family within the ward of Siliguri Mayor. Police have arrested an individual identified as Chiranjit Das, a resident of the More Bazar area, in connection with the incident.
The assault took place in Surya Sen Colony under Ward No. 33 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Monday night, where a group of alleged drug addicts attacked the family members for opposing drug-related gatherings in the area. In response to the incident, Mayor Goutam Deb had called upon the police administration to take swift action.
Following the Mayor’s request, New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police apprehended the accused on Wednesday night. A formal complaint had been filed at the police station following the assault.
Mayor Deb reiterated his commitment to not tolerate such anti-social activities within the city and urged law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also mentioned that information regarding drug-related activities in abandoned railway quarters across different areas of the city had been conveyed to railway authorities and would be reported once again. The accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri Court on Thursday.
