Siliguri, 13th January: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from the Matigara police station area in Siliguri, shocking the entire locality. Police have arrested the child’s stepfather, identified as Mohammad Rustam alias Tekua (24), for physically abusing a one-and-a-half-year-old girl.
According to police sources, on Sunday, the child’s health suddenly deteriorated, and her mother took her to the Matigara Primary Health Centre for treatment. Upon seeing the child’s physical condition, the hospital authorities became seriously suspicious and immediately informed Matigara police.
After receiving the information, police reached the spot and began investigating the case. Preliminary investigation revealed signs of physical abuse, following which the child’s stepfather was arrested on Monday morning. A case has been registered against the accused under the POCSO Act.
The arrested accused was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Matigara police continue to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
