Odisha’s Naveen Patnaik becomes the second-longest serving CM

Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik of Odisha eclipses Jyoti Basu of West Bengal as the country’s second-longest-serving Chief Minister on Saturday.


Patnaik took charge on March 5, 2000, and has served as the Chief Minister of Odisha five times. According to reports, Patnaik beat the former West Bengal CM Jyoti Basu and became the current second longest-serving CM as he held the position for 23 years, 138 days now. Notably, Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling still holds the record for the longest-serving Chief Minister of any state in India.
