After a virtual meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of state universities, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, on Sunday, said the state does not have any plans to start physical classes in colleges and universities soon.
“There are no plans to start physical classes in colleges and universities. Syllabus provided will be shortened. More focus will be given on online classes. We are even thinking of taking 1st-semester exams online,” Chatterjee said.
It is to be noted, education institutions have been closed across the country since March after the outbreak of coronavirus.
The West Bengal Education Minister further maintained that classes cannot take place on the campuses and will continue to be held online as the pandemic is still not over. The first semester is also likely to be conducted online.
Chatterjee further added that the Higher educational institutions can also extend the admission process by another 15 days at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Earlier in October, the West Bengal government had said that the on-campus activities in various state-run higher educational institutions would likely resume from December 01 depending on the pandemic situation.
