Siliguri, 26th July: In a successful operation, the New Jalpaiguri Government Railway Police (NJP GRP) foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis disguised as a sack of tobacco leaves in the parcel bogie of the Uttar Banga Express train. The seizure, made on Thursday evening, involved cannabis worth lakhs of rupees.
Upon receiving a tip-off, the NJP GRP team conducted a thorough search of the parcel bogie when the train arrived at platform number 3 of NJP railway station. During the search, they discovered a substantial amount of cannabis hidden within a sack of tobacco leaves.
According to GRP sources, the seized cannabis weighs approximately 30 kg, with a market value estimated in lakhs of rupees. The sack containing the cannabis was booked as a parcel in the luggage bogie of the Uttar Banga Express train, which was en route to Sealdah via NJP.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the owner of the parcel and any other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
