New Delhi, 05th February: Concerning the Nirbhaya case, the Delhi High Court dismissed the appeal of the Central Government and Tihar Jail authorities’ to hang the culprits separately and challenging trial court order which had stayed the execution of all 4 convicts. The court maintained that the culprits will have to be executed together.
The Delhi High Court observed that Delhi prison rules do not state that if mercy petition of one convict is pending, the execution of the other convicts can take place. Hence the court has allowed one week to all 4 convicts to resort to all legal assistance available to them. As per the report, the proceedings against them for the execution of the death warrant will be initiated after the assigned week.
Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, was also present in the courtroom. While addressing the media after the court was adjourned, Asha Devi stated, “I welcome Delhi High Court’s verdict. It gives all 4 convicts 1 week to resort to all legal remedies available to them. After this, the convicts should be hanged soon.”
