Siliguri, 30th July: Sensation prevailed after the lifeless body of a woman was found hanging from the noose in her in-law’s place within a month of marriage. The incident surfaced on Sunday from Panchanan Colony under Ward No. 1 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The deceased has been identified as Chandni Bhattacharya (Poddar).
As per reports, Shubhankar Bhattacharya, a resident of Panchanan Colony of SMC’s Ward No 1 married Chandni, a resident of Battala area of Ward No. 46, about a month ago. Following the marriage, Chandni started living with her in-laws. Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon, the in-laws discovered Chandni’s body hanging from a noose. After the shocking discovery, the matter was immediately informed to the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the spot, recovered the deceased’s body, and transported it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
In this regard, Pinki Poddar, the mother of the deceased revealed that she had three daughters and their economic condition was unstable. She added that in the prevailing circumstances, after coming across a promising groom, she got her younger daughter married. Furthermore, the mother expressed sorrow that she received the distressing news about her daughter over the phone. Meanwhile, husband Shubhankar Bhattacharya claimed to be at work when the incident occurred and stated to have received the news over the phone. Meanwhile, the police, after asking the Aadhar card of the deceased from her mother, initiated a thorough investigation into the entire incident.
