Newborn’s body goes missing from Siliguri District Hospital, causes outrage

Siliguri, 17th October: A shocking incident has emerged from Siliguri District Hospital, where the dead body of a newborn has reportedly gone missing, sparking widespread concern and outrage.


According to reports, Riya Gupta, a resident of Goalapatti in Siliguri’s Ward No. 04, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. Medical personnel informed the family that the child had died in the womb. Later that night, Riya gave birth to a stillborn son. The hospital informed the family that they would be able to collect the child’s body after a four-hour wait. However, the family opted to retrieve the body on Thursday morning.

Upon arriving at the hospital in the morning, the family waited for an extended period to receive the newborn’s body. They were alarmed to learn by the afternoon that the body could not be found. This revelation led to a significant uproar within the hospital premises, with family members questioning the safety and security measures in place at the facility.


In response to the situation, Amit Dutta, in charge of the hospital superintendent, stated that an investigation is underway to determine how the incident occurred. He assured that action would be taken against all on duty at the time.

Following the incident, Siliguri police were alerted and promptly arrived at the district hospital to investigate the matter further.
