Siliguri, 19th September: A tragic incident unfolded in Siliguri where a newborn died after birth, and the hospital sweeper allegedly engaged in corrupt practices surrounding the infant’s remains.
According to reports, the body of the newborn was discovered on Wednesday evening in a garbage heap on Vivekananda Road. Khalpara Outpost police quickly arrived at the scene to recover the body.
As per details received, the newborn’s mother, a resident of Kalimpong, had been admitted to Siliguri District Hospital where she gave birth. Unfortunately, the baby did not survive.
Following the death, the father reportedly sought the help of a hospital sweeper, who allegedly demanded three thousand rupees to arrange for the burial. However, the sweeper allegedly discarded the newborn’s body in a garbage heap.
In response to the incident, hospital officials have launched an internal investigation into the matter.
