Nepalese national arrested with wild animal carcasses on Indo-Nepal Border in Kharibari

Kharibari, 07th May: A Nepalese national, identified as Dumbar Sabkota (29), has been apprehended with carcasses of wild animals at Panitanki on the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari.


According to reports, the individual was arrested during a routine border check on Monday. The individual attempted to enter Nepal from Sikkim in a four-wheeler with five deer antlers, 30 porcupine quills, deer skulls, snake bones, and antlers of the Himalayan goral.

Upon inspection, the authorities of the 41st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) seized the animal parts and detained the individual. Subsequently, the individual was transferred to the Tukriajhar Forest Department by the SSB for further investigation.


The Forest Department has launched an investigation to ascertain if the arrested person has connections with international wildlife trafficking. Meanwhile, the arrested individual was presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court for legal proceedings.
