NBSTC launches smart card service for bus passengers in Siliguri

Siliguri, 28th February: The North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) has launched several new passenger-friendly initiatives at the Siliguri Junction Bus Terminus. The inauguration was carried out by NBSTC chairman Partha Pratim Roy, who unveiled the smart card service, cafeteria, dormitory facilities, and designated seating areas for passengers.

Chairman Partha Pratim Roy said the smart card service is a significant step by the corporation. It is especially designed for regular passengers of NBSTC buses. Passengers can simply tap the card on a swipe machine while boarding, and the fare will be automatically deducted, eliminating the need for carrying small change. The service will be officially launched from 1st April.

On the inauguration day, three passengers were handed smart cards as a symbolic gesture to mark the beginning of the service. The card will be valid on all routes where NBSTC buses operate.

In addition, dormitory facilities have been introduced for passengers. Rooms will be available for rent at fixed rates, with management entrusted to private agencies through a tender process. Similarly, the cafeteria and seating dormitory will also be operated under the same arrangements.
