Siliguri, 15th October: On Tuesday, Sanjay Kumar Mallick, the Superintendent of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), joined the hunger strike alongside the junior doctors. This action was taken highlighting the ongoing security concerns faced by several medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
Reportedly, the significant demand among the ten key demands put forth by the students is the need for enhanced security measures. Medical professionals and staff at government hospitals have been grappling with a lack of proper security arrangements.
On Tuesday, tensions escalated when a major clash occurred between the security personnel and the patients and their families due to inadequate medical services. The confrontation resulted in vandalism at the Superintendent’s office.
In response, Superintendent Mallick confirmed his participation in the hunger strike and expressed deep concern regarding the security issues at government colleges and hospitals of the state.
Regarding the office vandalism incident, he stated that despite the Medical Outpost being located only a short distance from the MSVP office, such events continue to occur. He raised questions about the overall police security after the incident.
