Naxalbari residents demand action as street lights burn day and night

Naxalbari, 13th June: Street lights installed along the state highway in Naxalbari, a project initiated by the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, have been burning continuously day and night. Local residents have raised concerns that the 24-hour operation of these lights will not only increase electricity bills but also heighten the risk of the street lights malfunctioning.

Reportedly, the local BJP leadership criticized the administration’s negligence, with BJP workers suggesting that it would be more beneficial to have the lights off during the day and operational at night. BJP leader Sadhan Chakraborty condemned the situation, stating that the Trinamool-run board is wasting taxpayers’ money.

In response, Biswajit Ghosh, Upa Pradhan of Naxalbari Gram Panchayat, explained that the issue arose because the street light timer was struck by lightning. He assured that the agency responsible has been instructed to fix the problem promptly and that a solution will be implemented soon.

  1. Sam says:

Yes, this is also noted in some places in Jyotinagar too. The timer to be updated as per the seasonal changes…
