Naxalbari police and traffic department drive brings down accidents

Naxalbari, 02nd January: A joint enforcement drive by Naxalbari police station and the traffic department has yielded positive results in curbing road accidents in the area. Over the past seven days, Naxalbari had witnessed seven to eight road accidents, claiming three lives and leaving more than ten people injured, prompting police to intensify preventive measures at the start of the new year.

Ahead of New Year celebrations and on New Year’s Day, Naxalbari police and traffic personnel launched strict checks to prevent accidents, particularly along the national highway. As part of the initiative, a drinks-and-drive campaign was launched, during which more than fifty motorists were caught violating traffic norms. Vehicles were seized and fines imposed on those found driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the drive, drivers were also counselled and warned to strictly follow traffic rules. Police sources said that so far 63 people have been detained during the checks, following which there has been a noticeable reduction in accidents across Naxalbari.

According to the police, the sustained enforcement has led to a zero-accident situation in recent days. Authorities have confirmed that such drives will continue in the coming days to further ensure road safety and prevent mishaps.
