Siliguri, 20th November: A new bus stand of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (N.B.S.T.C.) was inaugurated at the Tinbatti More area in Siliguri on Wednesday. The bus stand has been constructed on approximately 2.5 acres of land, which was previously the location of the N.B.S.T.C. office, along the road connecting Tinbatti More to Gate Bazar. The construction of the new bus stand was initiated by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation after the office was relocated.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by N.B.S.T.C. Chairman Partha Pratim Roy, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Gautam Dev, and other officials. Following the completion of the first phase of the construction, the new bus stand is now operational.
Initially, four local bus routes will be operated from this bus stand. The routes include Panitanki, Kharibari, Naxalbari, and Pahargoomiah, with 12 buses operating on these routes. Meanwhile, private local buses currently operate from Court More. Mayor Gautam Deb had suggested that these private buses be shifted to the new bus stand. However, private bus organizations have not agreed to the proposal as of now.
However, both the Mayor and N.B.S.T.C. Chairman stated that efforts would be made to resolve the issue, and private buses would eventually be operated from the new bus stand to ease traffic congestion in the city.
