Siliguri, 16th December: The police have made a significant breakthrough a year after the mysterious death of a mother and daughter in Siliguri. On Sunday, the police team led by OC Pappu Singh from Ashighar police station arrested an individual identified as Pradeep Kumar Chowdhury, also known as ‘PK,’ in connection with the case.
According to reports, Pradeep was previously arrested by the Ashighar police about eight months ago for illegal land encroachment and trading of land. However, this time, he has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the mysterious death of Lata Sarkar and her daughter Tiasa Sarkar.
The tragic incident occurred on December 3, 2023, when the bodies of Lata and Tiasa Sarkar were found in a locked room in their home in Shanti Nagar, Ward No. 36, Siliguri. The police found a suicide note at the crime scene, which mentioned names of TMC leader Prasenjit Roy, Subhash Das, Sunil Das, and Sujit Ghosh.
Following this, the husband of the deceased, Sadhan Sarkar, filed a complaint with the Ashighar police station, accusing the five individuals, including Pradeep, of abetting the deaths of his wife and daughter. The police interrogated the named suspects; however, no arrests were made at the time.
Despite the case being surrounded in mystery over the past year, the investigation was reopened, leading to the arrest of Pradeep. The police now suspect that Pradeep may have played a major role in the deaths of Lata and Tiasa Sarkar, and are currently looking for his accomplices.
The arrested accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court, where the police have sought his remand for further investigation.
