Siliguri, 11th September: The mysterious death of a young woman, identified as Riya Thapa, has created a stir in Siliguri. Riya, a resident of Kalchini, had been living in a rented house in Siliguri for the past three years due to work. She was employed in the sales department of a bike showroom. Her family has alleged that she was murdered.
According to the family, they had spoken to Riya via video call the night before her death. Later that night, they received a call from an unknown number, informing them that Riya had slit her wrist and committed suicide. The family rushed to Siliguri the next morning, only to find that Riya’s body had already been taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem. Her body was handed over to the family later that evening.
The family, however, claims that there were injury marks on Riya’s body and suspects foul play. They have filed a formal complaint against a youth named Suman Sheel, accusing him of involvement in her death, and have demanded strict punishment for the accused.
In response to the incident, MP Raju Bista visited the family during Riya’s funeral. He assured the family of justice and stated that he would be discussing the matter with the police.
