Siliguri, 01st November: The mysterious death of an 18-year-old youth, identified as Rajkumar Mahato, has sparked shock and suspicion in the Pokai Jote area of Ward No. 46 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The youth reportedly went out with four friends on Thursday night to see the puja festivities but never returned.
As per reports, later that evening, one of Rajkumar’s friends called his family, informing them that he had died in a road accident near the Venus More flyover. The family, devastated by the news, rushed to Siliguri District Hospital, where they grew suspicious of the circumstances surrounding his death. They allege that Rajkumar was murdered and that the claim of a road accident was an attempt to cover up the truth. Family members pointed out the absence of injury marks on his body, arguing that his friends may have killed him.
Upon being alerted to the incident, Siliguri police arrived at the hospital, recovered the body, and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. On Friday, following the examination, Rajkumar Mahato’s body was handed over to his family.
The return of the body to his home triggered an outpouring of grief, with family members overcome by inconsolable sorrow. They have announced intentions to file a formal complaint with the police. An investigation is underway as authorities look into the incident to determine the actual cause of the death.
