Kharibari, 13th August: Following the announcement of the new tariff policy in Nepal, the business activities in Kharibari’s Panitanki witnessed a significant decline. On Sunday, the Member of Parliament (MP) from Darjeeling Raju Bista visited the Indo-Nepal border in the Panitanki border and interacted with the business persons after receiving a letter stating issues in business along the border.
As per reports, MP Raju Bista met the Panitanki Byabsayee Samiti and learned about their grievances. In this regard, MP Raju Bista mentioned that in alignment with the Indo-Nepal trade agreement, neither India nor Nepal could levy any duties on a variety of items, including necessities. The MP added that the Union Foreign Minister has already been informed about the issue. Furthermore, the MP also assured to bring up the matter with the Government of Nepal.
Apart from the arising issue, MP Raju Bista also revealed that a 500-bed contemporary medical college would be set up in Siliguri which will be formally announced by the Central Government.
