Bagdogra, 11th September: Today, MP Raju Bista visited the family of a victim who fell prey to a horrific gang rape incident involving six perpetrators. This distressing incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Bagdogra Police Station. Despite the victim filing a formal complaint nearly 15 days ago, the main accused remains at large.
The MP alleged that the primary suspect is associated with the ruling political party and enjoys close ties with TMC leaders. He added that this has raised concerns about whether political affiliations are influencing the delay in apprehending the accused.
Bista further added that over the past month, Siliguri has witnessed several heinous rape cases, raising serious concerns about the prevailing law and order situation, particularly in Siliguri, Darjeeling, Terai, and Kalimpong regions. A growing sense of insecurity is plaguing the area, and under the TMC government, women’s safety has been compromised.
“The police seem to be failing to maintain law and order. Every time police show favoritism to one political party, it contributes to producing a criminal in the society. The ruling party loves criminals, they provide these criminals with political shelter for their financial and political gains. This is not only shameful, but also puts our entire at grave risk. The failure of the police to ensure women’s safety not only undermines trust in law enforcement but also has a detrimental impact on the overall well-being and freedom of women in the state.
The deteriorating law and order situation has raised questions about the effectiveness of the state’s law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of its citizens. It is crucial for the government and authorities to take immediate and effective measures to address these issues and restore confidence in the rule of law,” Bista stated.
