Kalimpong, 04th July: The government of Bengal has initiated an investigation to determine whether a recently constructed shopping complex was built on the premises of Kalimpong Girls’ High School. A notice announcing the formation of a committee for the investigation was issued by the Commissioner of the Directorate of School Education.
In April 2023, Raju Bista, Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Darjeeling, wrote to the Governor of West Bengal and the Minister of Education, urging a thorough inquiry into the construction of the shopping complex. Reports indicate that the land in question was previously owned by the Church of North India, which the investigation committee is seeking to verify.
To establish whether the land where the complex was built legally belongs to the school, the Church, or any other entity, the committee plans to conduct a field trip and scrutinize the relevant land documents.
