Darjeeling, 30th July: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista issued a statement expressing concern about the unfortunate event that took place at Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Line Project Tunnel.
“I am deeply shocked to hear about the tragic accident at the ITDCL labour camp at Rungpoo rail project in Mamkhola area. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their lives and I am praying for the safety and early recovery of those who are in the hospital,” Bista stated.
It is to recall, two labour working on the Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Line Project was killed and four others were seriously injured at Mam Khola near Melli on National Highway 10 last night. As per the initial reports, the river stream near the camp was blocked by falling boulders for the past couple of days, and the swelling river burst and washed away the camp where the rail construction workers were living.
As the region witnessing heavy rains for over a month now, MP Bista said that it is important that extreme precautions be taken to avoid damages during such disasters. He further maintained that he has sought a detailed report on the incident and is in constant touch with the railway (IRCON) officials. “..offered my help for anything I can assist with,” he added.
