In a recent statement, MP Raju Bista expressed his dissatisfaction with Anit Thapa’s advocacy for “regionalism.” Bista accused Thapa and others of betraying Gorkha aspirations by aligning themselves with the state government in exchange for personal gains. He highlighted their role in forcefully reopening businesses, schools, and offices during past shutdowns supporting the Gorkhaland cause.
Bista called out the hypocrisy of these individuals, who now claim to champion regionalism while obediently following directives from Kolkata. He criticized their version of regionalism for failing to address the rights and welfare of the Gorkha community. Bista pointed out issues such as the limited territorial control, lack of land rights for workers, transfer of cinchona gardens to the Forest Department, and inadequate development in the region.
The MP also criticized the appointment of regional posts from Kolkata and the alleged corruption and embezzlement of funds in public projects. He blamed their brand of regionalism for impeding Panchayat elections and cited irregularities in teacher recruitment under the GTA (Gorkhaland Territorial Administration).
Bista emphasized his commitment to protect the constitutional rights and fulfill the aspirations of the Gorkha community. He rejected the narrow definition of regionalism and expressed his willingness to work at regional, state, and national levels. Bista further stated his refusal to accept a corrupt party like the Trinamool Congress while having issues with a national party like the BJP.
