MP Raju Bista alleges attack by political goons, seeks Governor’s intervention

Sukhia, 30th June: The political landscape in West Bengal has witnessed an alarming rise in instances of threat, intimidation, physical attacks, and even murder under the ruling Trinamool Congress. In a recent development, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has accused a group of people affiliated with the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) of launching an attack on him during a visit to Pokhriabong bazar today.

According to MP Raju Bista, the BGPM-affiliated “goons” deliberately targeted his vehicle with the alleged intention of causing physical harm. Bista emphasized that their actions not only violated the current Model Code of Conduct but also obstructed a public servant from fulfilling his duties towards his constituency, constituting criminal offenses. The MP further alleged that the attack appeared to be premeditated, aimed at inflicting harm not only upon himself but also those accompanying him. Bista asserted that the ruling party and its allies are growing increasingly desperate due to the dwindling support they are experiencing.

Expressing disappointment, Bista highlighted the lack of security arrangements despite informing the Darjeeling District Police in advance about his travel plans. He claimed that the few deployed police personnel remained passive bystanders, failing to intervene and prevent the attack on his vehicle.

In light of the incident, MP Raju Bista has urgently requested the intervention of the Governor to ensure the peaceful conduct of election campaigning, voting processes, and the protection of the public against alleged state-sponsored goons. Additionally, an official complaint has been filed against the BGPM-affiliated attackers at the Nagari Police Station.
