MP Bista urges Governor to extend deployment of Central security forces after polls

Siliguri, 29th June: Member of Parliament (MP) from Darjeeling, Raju Bista, along with leaders of allied parties, met Governor CV Ananda Bose at the State Guest House in Siliguri on Thursday, to discuss the upcoming Panchayat Polls in the state.

The primary focus of the meeting was to address the current situation in the hills in relation to the Panchayat elections. MP Raju Bista raised several important issues during the discussion with the Governor. He specifically urged for the Central forces to be stationed in the region for an additional 6 weeks after the elections to ensure peace and security.

Taking a dig at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, the MP highlighted their history of creating unrest following defeats, citing the example of the 2021 Assembly election. He emphasized the need for extended deployment of Central forces to maintain stability.

Furthermore, MP Raju Bista requested the Governor to ensure favourable conditions for citizens to exercise their voting rights without any fear. He specifically called for the deployment of Central forces at every polling booth on the day of the election. Additionally, the MP alleged that candidates from the BJP’s allies in the hills were being threatened ahead of the Panchayat elections, and attempts were made to influence them through corruption.
