Mother risks life taking child to school on dilapidated road in Belakoba

Rajganj, 22nd July: In Belakoba, Rajganj, a mother was seen risking her life by tying her child with a cloth while riding a scooter to school. The dangerous condition of the local road has left parents with no other option to ensure their children’s safety.


According to reports, the road from College More to Vivekananda Colony under Panikauri Gram Panchayat has been in a severely damaged state for years. This route is essential for hundreds of daily commuters, including students from five schools and two colleges. Due to the poor condition of the road, frequent minor accidents occur, especially during the monsoon when waterlogging makes the situation worse.

In order to prevent accidents, many parents are taking extreme safety measures. On Tuesday, a mother in Belakoba was seen tying her child to her own body with a cloth while riding a scooter to school, fearing that the child might fall due to the bumpy and dangerous road.


Local residents allege that the condition of the road has remained neglected for years. The road is crucial as it connects to Belakoba Girls’ High School and other important institutions. Many people are now forced to take longer alternative routes for safety.

Residents have demanded immediate repairs of the road, stating that daily commuting has become life-threatening.

Panikauri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Papiya Sarkar said the matter has already been reported to the North Bengal Development Department. She confirmed that the tender process is complete, and road repair work will begin soon.
