Siliguri, 17th February: The Bangiya Hindu Samaj staged a protest in Siliguri over the naming of a mosque after Babur. The demonstration took place on Tuesday afternoon at Thakur Panchanan Barma Chowk in Siliguri.
During the protest, members of the organization burned an effigy of Humayun Kabir to express their dissent. They also blocked the road for a brief period as part of the demonstration.
Protesters said they have no objection to the construction of the mosque itself, but they demand that the name “Babri Masjid” not be used. They cautioned that if their demand is not met, they may escalate the movement with larger protests in the future.
