Jalpaiguri, 03rd March: A momo seller from Jalpaiguri allegedly died amid distress after finding his name missing from the voter list following SIR process. The incident has triggered shock and grief in the locality.
According to sources, the deceased has been identified as Gourango Dey, a resident of Nayabasti Para in Jalpaiguri town. Family members stated that he had been casting his vote for over 40 years. However, after discovering that his name had been removed from the voter list, he was reportedly suffering from mental distress.
On Tuesday morning, his body was recovered from the bathroom of his residence. Police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Jalpaiguri Municipality Chairman Saikat Chatterjee held the Election Commission responsible for the incident, alleging that the voter list issue led to severe distress.
