On August 23 at around 06:04 PM IST, Chandrayaan-3 of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) became the first unmanned spacecraft to softly land on the unexplored lunar South Pole, almost four years since India’s last attempt to land on the moon. With the successful landing of the spacecraft, India now ranks fourth among nations that have achieved a soft landing on the moon, after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China.
Notably, the historic mission of Chandrayaan-3 was scheduled to launch on Friday, July 14 at 02:35 PM IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, prayers resonated across the nation for the successful execution of the mission. Following a critical manoeuvre of over 40 days, Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the lunar surface.
At an estimated Rs 615 crore, Chandrayaan-3 was one of India’s most economically efficient space missions with the dedicated work of almost 1000 engineers and scientists behind its success. With the successful touchdown, Chandrayaan-3 has boosted the nation’s space industry and has become one of the most significant milestones in the history of space missions.
Great success.
Great achievement 🎉
