Siliguri, 10th October: In a significant breakthrough, the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police successfully apprehended a miscreant in illegal possession of a firearm a few days ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations. The accused individual has been identified as Mehbub Khan.
According to reports, on Monday night, the police were alerted of a suspected youth prowling the Jatiyakali area carrying a gun. Following this, the authorities from the NJP police station initiated an operation based on the tip-off. Subsequently, the suspect was taken into custody with a pistol and one round of ammunition.
Police sources claimed that the miscreant has been charged with several antisocial behavioral issues and was anticipated to loiter in the region in order to sell the local firearm. On Tuesday, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court. The entire incident is under further police investigation.
