Mirik, 25th June: During an administrative meeting, held on Thursday, all shops (essential and non-essential) and transportations have been decided to be completely shut down in Mirik for the next 7 days as precautionary measures.
The move comes after a doctor, two nurses, and a Group D staff of the Mirik Health Center tested positive for the coronavirus during a routine check-up.
In a meeting between Mirik Sub-Divisional Officer Aswini Kumar Roy, Municipal Chairman L.B. Rai, Traders’ Association, Drivers’ Association, and Mirik police, it was jointly agreed to lock down Mirik for the next seven days.
Considering the increasing COVID-19 cases in Siliguri, around 50 km away from Mirik, all persons traveling to the town from Siliguri will be quarantined. All goods coming from Siliguri will be sanitized for 12 hours.
According to the SDO Aswini Kumar Roy and Municipal Chairman L.B. Rai the lockdown will be strictly imposed in Mirik and stringent action will be taken against any violators.
